Magnetotransport as a probe for the interplay between Sm and Fe magnetism in SmFeAsO

Abstract The complex magnetic ordering of parent compounds most unconventional superconductors is crucial for the understanding high-temperature superconductivity (SC). Within this framework, we have performed temperature-dependent magnetotransport experiments on a single crystal SmFeAsO, compound iron pnictide superconductors. We observe multiple features in measured transport properties at temperatures below antiferromagnetic (AFM) Sm, T < NSm , which evolve with in-plane field, suggesting rich variety metamagnetic transitions never before observed compound. Considering that mainly involves Fe d orbitals Fermi level, these findings suggest originate from moments sublattice, turn may be induced by Sm sublattice via interaction between and moments. outline possible scenario moments, strongly affected T NSm reorder to an canted AFM structure, washed out application field up 9 T. Our work shows are valuable tool investigating compounds, where interplay magnetism SC believed origin SC.
